I was asked by someone on Twitter today (thanks @authorsbooks) if Splinter is available to watch instantly like it is in the US on NetFlix, iTunes, XBoxLive and Amazon. (Links on the right)
So, I asked the good folks across the pond at Icon Entertainment who are distributing Splinter in the UK (and Australia from 9/9/09) and they gave me the scoop:
Splinter is available right now on-demand from Virgin Media and Sky Box Office, as well as the UK iTunes Store.
So, that’s pretty cool. And I hear there will be more options in the near future. I love where this technology is going, and I really think this kind of technological advance is exactly what the film industry needs to survive the threat of on-line piracy. Give the audience a way to see a film on their terms and they will embrace it.
Over at Amazon.co.uk Splinter hit the No. 1 spot on the “Hot Pre-orders” list, making it the top pre-sale DVD in horror genre in the run up to its official release tomorrow. Get yours HERE.
British alternative/counter-culture lifestyle magazine Bizarre has succumbed to Splinter in a big way. The entire site (and what looks like every ad) has been taken over by Splinter.
I have to say, this is pretty much the coolest thing ever. I don’t know how long it will be like this, but you have to check out the subtle animation of all those splinters. Check it out.
I just heard from a friend in London (thanks Tim) that Amazon.co.uk already shipped his copy of Splinter on DVD, and it’s possible that it could arrive before Monday, March 30th when it will officially be available in stores.
You can order the DVD or Blu-Ray from Amazon.co.uk HERE. Or visit the official UK Splinter Store.
Icon Entertainment have announced the release date for Splinter on DVD in the UK, February 23rd 2009. This is great news, because now my friends and family back in jolly old England can finally see what all the fuss was about.
If you live in the UK, or like to shop for things as if you lived in the UK, you can visit Amazon.co.uk and pre-order your copy today!
I’ll keep you posted as the British press start to review the film.
