My head is spinning. The ScreamFest award dinner just happened, and for crying out loud, Splinter swept the awards. I am so proud of all the crew for getting the recognition they deserve, each and every one of them worked their asses off to make the film what it is, and I’m overjoyed to announce that together we took home 6 awards tonight:
Best Editing: David Michael Maurer
Best Score: Elia Cmiral
Best Special Effects: Quantum Creation FX
Best Make-Up: Ozzy Alverez, Danielle Noe
Best Directing
Best Picture
According to DreadCentral the Splinter premiere is among the fastest selling tickets at ScreamFest ‘08. We’re neck ‘n neck with Trick ‘r Treat, with each film having fewer than 90 tickets remaining as of this posting.
I’m really looking forward to ScreamFest. I had a short film in the festival in 2005 which won the award for Best Horror Short, and I have to say, the audiences at this festival are awesome. Genuine horror fans really know how to enjoy a movie.
On my must see list for the fest are my friend Mike’s movie Trick ‘r Treat, and the Canadian film Acolytes. I have to do some homework on the others, but I really hope I get a chance to see them all.

I sent Jill Wagner an email last night with the link to the ScreamFestLA boxoffice page for the Splinter premiere so she could get tickets for her friends… then this morning I got this voicemail from her. I forgot she has like 13,000 friends on her MySpace page!
We’re gonna need a bigger theatre.
A call from Jill always brightens my day.

I had a great time at ScreamFest in 2005 when my short film Staring at the Sun played the festival and ended up taking home the award for Best Horror Short. Since then the festival has grown a lot, moved to a new and bigger venue, and has become a serious launch pad for horror films. So I was really excited to hear that Splinter will be having its world premier screening as the centerpiece film at ScreamFest 2008.
