Doing an interview for our friends at FearNet on the red carpet at the Spike TV 2009 Scream Awards with Splinter stars Jill Wagner, Paulo Costanzo.
The folks at DVDFile.com (a branch of Crave Online) just let me know they published an exclusive interview with Splinter star Paulo Costanzo. He talks about shooting the film, working with Jill Wagner, and his love for the horror genre. The writer, Kenneth J. Souza had some nice things to say about the film, calling it ”a raw and unnerving little gem” and ”wholly fresh and original”.
Paulo is a great actor, and has become a good friend since we shot the film in 2007. You can feel his passion for Splinter in every word of this interview, and I really appreciate that he feels so proud of it.
Check it out HERE.
Dead Harvey are rapidly proving themselves to be both prolific and in-depth reporters on the industry. They have followed up their interview with yours truly with a great new interview with David Michael Maurer, editor of Splinter. Check it out HERE.
For more about David Maurer visit davidmichaelmaurer.com, follow him on Twitter, and visit his film blog FlickGym.com.
The guys over at Dead Harvey are apparently huge fans of Splinter, and we were able to connect and do a little interview. Here are a couple of excerpts of what they have to say about the film.
“…this film is one of the best horror films of the year…”
”Splinter is a rare indie horror that excels on every level.”
“It’s the kind of movie you want to go out and tell all your friends to rent after you watch it.”
“I can’t say enough great things about Splinter. It’s a must see and I hope everyone that reads this that hasn’t seen it will check it out and discover what I did: a renewed enthusiasm for the genre.”
You can read the interview, and explore their excellent site HERE.
On Saturday, May 9th, one of London’s largest newspapers, The Daily Telegraph printed an interesting article about the recent up-swing in direct-to-dvd movies and their respectability.
Splinter did not receive a theatrical release in the UK, only playing at a few festivals, and a sneak preview screening, so technically it was a direct-to-dvd release there.
I was invited to contribute my two cents, and did so happily. I am a big fan of innovative and unconventional distribution ideas for film. Something I share in common with screenwriter and filmmaker John August who blogged on the subject last year in his article Sundance, The Nines, and the death of independent film.
Anyway, the article in The Daily Telegraph is a good read, it talks about how perceptions of DTV movies are changing, how cult status is an elusive prize that is often won by unsung DTV fare, and they quote me quite a lot. They even let me have the last word!
You can read the full article on-line at Telegraph.co.uk.
The latest issue of Scars Magazine has an incredible six page spread about Splinter, featuring a ton of stills, an interview with me, and an entire section on the special effects including a rare interview with effects makeup guru Ozzy Alvarez and never before seen behind the scenes stills of him and his team at work.
This is a definite collectors item for hard core horror fans. The print magazine can be found on well stocked news stands everywhere, through their web site, and also available as a digital download for only $3 HERE.
Another interview with me in the UK press, this time Sci-Fi Online which is a great site devoted to TV Sci-Fi and the less well known but much loved cult films out there. Read the interview HERE.
Back in October of last year, on the day of the premiere of Splinter I did a few taped interviews which I blogged about at the here and here. I just found another one on YouTube and thought I would share it with you.

London’s The Guardian newspaper has this column they do, called “Celebrity Squares” where they ask people what tech gadgets they have, want, like, etc. Everyone gets the same questions, and I guess there’s a lot of overlap with the answers too since most people seem to love their iPhones and MacBooks.
Anyway, apparently as a UK born director of movies, I have a high enough celebrity factor to warrant some column inches in the paper, and here is the resulting article: Celebrity Squares
It’s really like one big plug for technology. I feel like I should be getting a kick-back from Apple, XBox, Porsche, Google, Amazon, and Mika who’s song Any Other World I listed as what I’m listening to now. Enjoy:
The genre-loving fellows over at Total Sci-Fi were kind enough to dream up a few questions for me to answer, and help spread the word about Splinter. It’s always a pleasure to chat with people who know the ins and outs of the sci-fi and horror movies. You can read the whole thing HERE.
The folks over at JoBlo.com’s Arrow In The Head just published a new interview I did with them a few days ago. You might remember I did an interview with them back on October 2008, on the day of the Splinter premiere, and it’s great to be back on the site.
This time we chatted about both Splinter and The Grudge 3. You can read the interview HERE.
The UK’s most awesome super fun movie blog with an ’80s bent, HeyUGuys, just published an interview I did with them to promote the special sneak preview screening of Splinter in London this week.
Check out the interview HERE, and but sure to poke around a little while you’re there, these guys really know what’s fun about movies. Or kick back and just let the site’s constantly changing header/banner take you on a trip down memory lane with references to all the movies you loved as a kid, and still love today.
Splinter hits DVD and Blu-Ray in the UK on Monday, March 30th. Go HERE to order your copy.
A great horror blog that reviewed Splinter back while it was in theatres just posted a new interview with yours truly. You can read it HERE and be sure to poke around for more horror news and reviews than you can shake a stick at.

I had the pleasure of being interviewed for Scottish magazine The List, and they just published that interview in the run up to the UK DVD release of Splinter on March 30th. You can order the DVD HERE, and read the interview HERE. There’s also a “too bloody for the MPAA” promotional image incorporated in the article.
The List is Scotland’s leading arts and entertainment magazine, providing listings, critique, insight and reportage on a wide range of arts, media and culture topics. I’m chuffed to be featured in it.
“It’s amazing what a difference the little things make even in a horror film and Splinter has the goods. Real characters, decent writing, a taunt pace and a pinch of monster originality - a recipe for a horror movie to heed.”

NB: The transcription of the interview leaves something to be desired.
