You can now rent or buy Splinter instantly from Apple iTunes by clicking HERE (iTunes Link). As a huge Apple fan, I am very happy to finally be able to announce this news.
The Grudge 3 is also available HERE, and both are in HD via Apple TV. For an interesting article about how DTV titles may find a new home with download to own, and rent go HERE.

The site is Brutal As Hell, the review itself is actually pretty great. The reviewer proclaims himself “not a huge fan of sequels” or of the Grudge franchise as a whole, but seems to really dig this one. Here are a few quotes, and he gives The Grudge 3 a glowing 3.5/5 skulls. This should be welcome news to Sam Raimi, who was keen to make this installment work not only as part of the series, but also able to stand on its own.
“First is the admirable direction of Toby Wilkins… He builds tension through the use of creative camera work as well as the utilization of talented actress Aiko Horiuchi who plays the ghostly Kayako. Horiuchi delivers a heck of a performance…”
“The film manages to pull off a remarkable feat of being not only watchable, but entertaining…” ”When credits rolled I had to surprisingly admit to myself how much of a good time I had with this film.”
“Gil McKinney puts on his best Jack Nicholson… …It was both a believable descent into madness, as well as an enjoyable one to watch.”
“…genuine scares, and frightful moments.”
“Anyone can slide right in, catch up on the back story, and enjoy this satisfying ghost story.”
“Miraculously, a franchise wrought with unoriginality proved to be able to bring some real entertainment value to the table making this for a heck of a fun film to watch.”
You can read the full review, and explore the extensive review site HERE. They also published a great little review of Splinter back when it was in theatres saying it succeeded in “pushing the siege formula to new levels.” You can read the rest of that HERE.
Jen Johans reviews The Grudge 3 for her extensive database/blog of over 1,000 film reviews. She has the following to say about the film:
“we get a strong sense… that at last we have a halfway decent plot.”
“[Wilkins] and his screenwriter Brad Keene must be commended for successfully building a good source of dramatic conflict with the revelation that the ‘curse’ of Kayako could have a solution once and for all.”
“[The Grudge 3] is the first one to fully reboot the franchise for American audiences by still retaining but reshaping the great origin story… Likewise, it makes me think that’s perhaps what should have been done all along to make better quality American versions that stand alone as worthwhile rather than simply ripping off Shimizu’s stylistically inventive original.”
“The deaths move from mysterious to grisly in increasingly horrific fashion until everything comes to a head in a truly pulse-pounding… blood-and-guts spattered ending.”

UK based film blog Flash Bang: Action Movie Reviews has been at it again. You may recall reading their glowing 7/10 review of Splinter a little while ago, and now, with baited breath, they have reviewed my second feature The Grudge 3 and given it a 6/10. You can read the review HERE.
One piece of trivia, I just discovered that the reviewer, who goes by the name Wayfarer, is based in a city that’s about ten miles from the town in which I was born.
Back in October of last year, on the day of the premiere of Splinter I did a few taped interviews which I blogged about at the here and here. I just found another one on YouTube and thought I would share it with you.

The Fangoria Weekend of Horrors is coming to Los Angeles, CA (April 17-19) and I’ll be there on Sunday the 19th for a panel with some of the cast of The Grudge 3 and to show some clips. Also on the bill for the weekend are none other than Sam Raimi, Clive Barker, Thomas Jane, and Tobe Hooper. Plus many more.
The good folks at eSplatter are giving away two free passes to the event, visit here to try your luck.
The whole weekend should pretty much rock for horror fans, so I hope to see a lot of you there. The cast and I will be around after the panel to do signings… Splinter will hit the street that week, so pre-order a copy on DVD or Blu-Ray now, bring it on the day, and I’ll ruin it for you by scribbling all over the cover with a sharpie. Deal?

For more info on the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors event, and to buy tickets, visit HERE.

Landed in Chicago, getting ready for tomorrow (Sat. March 7th). Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors should be a blast. We’re screening The Grudge 3 at 1pm, with a big panel discussion, Q&A type thing afterwards. And we’re screening Splinter at 7pm.
Both screenings are FREE for convention attendees. More info HERE.
Sony and Ghost House arranged a special private screening of The Grudge 3 for some of the cast and crew today. It was the first time most of them had seen the film since its completion, and the first time anyone has seen it on the big screen. I’m happy to report that the response was great. Everyone seemed really pleased with how the film came out, and how it played with an audience.
It was great to see everyone and finally let them share in the fruits of all their hard work. Johanna Braddy, and Gil McKinney from the cast were there, as well as editor John Quinn, some of the producers, and the screenwriter Brad Keene.
I’ll be interested to see how this screening compares to the upcoming screening at Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors in Chicago this Saturday. As always you can order a DVD of the movie from Amazon.com.
FANGORIA Weekend of Horrors Film Schedule was announced today. Splinter and The Grudge 3 both screening Saturday, March 7.

I’m going to be doing a panel (Splinter and Grudge screenings too) at Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, March 6-8 in Chicago.
Headlining the weekend is none other than George A. Romero, so that’s pretty awesome. According to Dread Central Romero is going to be showing clips from his new zombie movie, so I’m going to try and see that presentation if I can escape the press room for a bit.
We’ll also be doing a sneak screening of my next film The Grudge 3, and hopefully the first ever Chicago screening of Splinter. Both will be free to convention attendees, advance convention passes are available HERE.
See you in Chicago!
Super exciting news! Fangoria have invited me to present The Grudge 3 at their Weekend of Horrors convention in Chicago in March. I’ll be there in the shadow of some of the great masters of the genre, George A. Romero, Tobe Hooper, Tom Savini… and many more. Man this is going to be a cool weekend.
The Chicago launch of the traveling convention will be March 6-8, at Chicago’s Wyndham O’Hare. For more about the what, where, when, and who of the traveling convention, go HERE or click the banner above. Read the press release at FangoriaOnline.com.

I did an interview with one of the leading UK newspapers today, The Guardian. It was for the technology section, one of those columns where they ask you a bunch of questions about what gadgets you use… I’m such a tech-head. Perfect.
And Fangoria interviewed me again, which was great because they did such a nice job covering Splinter back in their Halloween issue. This time for the web, to promote the DVD release of Splinter in the UK, and we chatted a little more about the upcoming The Grudge 3.

Johanna Braddy, one of the stars of my upcoming film The Grudge 3 landed a role opposite Tim Roth in the premiere episode of Fox’s Lie To Me which airs tonight. From what I have seen she is great in this pilot, and she is great in The Grudge 3 also. Well done Jo, you rock!
Check it out tonight, Wednesday Jan 21st, 2009 @ 9/8c on Fox. Right after Lost, on abc.
