Splinter is showing at the Vienna International Film Festival (Viennale ‘09) this Saturday, with an encore performance at midnight on Halloween!
Looking at a few web sites, this seems like one hell of a cool film festival, and the Halloween screening really sounds like a blast.
Despite growing up in London, I have never really travelled through Europe. Vienna is supposed to be one of the most beautiful cities, and I can’t think of a better way to travel than as a guest of a major film festival.
Alas, with an indie like Splinter, directors do not seem to get flown all over the world to attend these events. Or at least I don’t. LOL. Would be fun though.

I just returned from a whistle-stop visit to the Austin Film Festival and Screenwriting Conference where Splinter screened for the second time in front of a US audience. I had a great time at the fest, the audience was great and I even got to speak on a panel. That in itself made the trip awesome fun, I apparently quite enjoy public speaking… something I didn’t really know about myself.

The panel was called Writing the Horror Film, and I was delighted to be included in the line-up with Eric Red (The Hitcher), Bryan Bertino (The Strangers) and actor/writer Johnathon Schaech (Prom Night, Quarantine).
I was only in Austin for two days, but managed to hang out with a couple of my screenwriting heros, John August (Go, Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), and Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Long Kiss Goodnight, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang).
It was also great to be returning to the festival with my first feature film after taking home the Audience Award for Best Short Film in 2006 for my short film Kidney Thieves.
Splinter is playing at The Austin Film Festival on Friday October 17th at 10pm. Please go and support the film, and this great festival if you can.
It’s really great to be back at Austin, Ben Acker and I had an amazing time at the fest. in 2006 when our film Kidney Thieves (click to watch) took home the Audience Award for Best Short Film.
