Splinter hits another “Best Of” list, this time down under. Though it was technically released in the US in 2008, when it swept the awards at ScreamFest, played the Austin Film Festival, and premiered in theatres, most US horror fans first became aware of the film when it hit DVD and BluRay in early 2009. Further from home, where Splinter can still be found rolling out in theatres in some countries, it is decidedly a 2009 release.
Just as it was in 2008, it’s great to see Splinter popping up on “best of the year” lists from around the globe, for 2009. Australian horror blog A Nightmare on Samityville Street featured Splinter alongside Drag Me To Hell, and Trick ‘r Treat, on its “Best Films of 2009” list today.
Here’s what Sam has to say about Splinter:
“It’s knowingness and respect for the simplicity of films like The Thing, Tremors and others fused with a genuinely unique monster all its own made this independent debut a great attention grabber and Wilkins a talent to watch.”
