In October 2008, when Splinter was premiering at ScreamFest’s main venue, Hollywood & Highland, there was a lot of fuss going on down the road at the Greek Theatre. Red carpet, klieg lights, limousines, TV crews, fireworks, the whole nine yards. It was quite a show by all accounts. And as fun as ScreamFest was, with all the excitement of my first feature film premiere, the big hullabaloo just out of earshot created a feeling that perhaps we were at the wrong party.
The other event was of course Spike TV’s Scream Awards, that just happened to be on the same date, and the cameras were there to cover the arrivals of such folk as George Lucas, Marilyn Manson, Gary Oldman, Liv Tyler, My Chemical Romance, and Tim Burton who was lowered into the event in a basket suspended from balloons [WATCH CLIP].
Well, this year the judges have nominated Splinter in the Best Horror Movie category, which is insanely cool. Our little indie is once again pitted against some of the biggest and most successful horror films of the year including Friday the 13th, My Bloody Valentine 3D, Drag Me To Hell and some of the most recognized indie horror Let the Right One In and Dead Snow. Also nominated in the Most Memorable Mutilation category for the arm chop sequence. Sweet! You can vote for that one HERE.
The best part is, you get to VOTE. The nominations are done behind closed doors, by invitation only, but the voting is open to anyone with an internet connection… or multiple internet connections.
Click above (or HERE) to visit the site and cast your vote. It only takes a second, but while you’re there you might as well vote in all the other categories too.
A thing like this obviously a huge boost for films like Splinter that live or die on word of mouth. Everyone has heard of Friday the 13th, and now a few million others may be made aware of a little indie called Splinter. The fact that the awards night is almost exactly one year after the original premiere is icing on the cake.
UPDATE:
Splinter is also nominated in the “Most Memorable Mutilation” category. You can vote for that one HERE.
