Get TEEN WOLF Free
Entertainment Weekly on the pilot of Teen Wolf which premiered on MTV last night: “Teen Wolf was just plain good — good fun, well-written, and well-acted.” “Clever and fresh” As you may recall if you read my blog, I had the pleasure of directing three mid-season episodes of this awesome new show. If my math is right, my episodes start to air on June 20th, 2011. If...

Teen Wolf Shoots Digital
Arri, the makers of high-end film and digital cameras have published an article featuring Teen Wolf as a case study for shooting on their latest camera, the Arri Alexa. Pictured here is Jill Wagner, star of my 2008 film Splinter, who I had the pleasure of casting again in up-coming Teen Wolf. As you may know, we chose the first generation of the Arri digital camera to shoot Splinter back in...

Teen Wolf Trailer Online
The first official trailer for MTV’s Teen Wolf just launched online at MTV.com. I’m really excited, the show looks amazing!  And they even included some shots from the episodes I directed which makes me feel all kinds of proud to be a part of this project. The show premieres on June 5th on MTV.

Splinter Just Came Out?
It’s amazing to me, but Splinter just opened in theatres, in the United Arab Emirates. According to BoxOfficeMojo.com it landed at a healthy #9 for its opening weekend with a per-screen average rivaling The Green Hornet. I love international release schedules, that’s over two years after the film’s initial US theatrical release. If you know anyone in the UAE, maybe you could shoot them an...

Teen Wolf Date Announced
MTV just announced that Teen Wolf will premiere June 5th, immediately following the MTV Movie Awards. I’m very excited for people to start seeing the show. We just finished the first round of editing on the episodes I directed, and I’m really happy with how they turned out.

Directing me some Teen Wolf!
I arrived in Atlanta yesterday to start prep on a block of episodes for MTV’s upcoming series Teen Wolf. I have to say, so far Georgia and its people are amazing. The first thing that struck me was how green the area is, mile after mile of lush forests of evergreen, sprinkled with occasional flashes of the red-orange colors of fall. Lovely. Eager to soak up the Teen Wolf spirit, I decided...

Same column as Spielberg and Nolan!
When I was a kid, the arrival of the new issue of the Radio Times and the TV Times was an important event in my household. These two publications covered, in depth, all four television channels. That’s right everyone, there were only four stations broadcasting in England in those days. In fact, I can remember when that fourth channel started up… Ahhhh Channel 4, how I loved thee.  ...

Gotta Love Slow-Mo
So, I was listening to Christopher Nolan talk about his new film Inception on KCRW’s The Treatment last week, and was surprised to learn that he hadn’t used slow-mo in any of his film before this one. His reasoning was sound, and I must say I loved the way he used it in Inception. As my my old friend Tim Epps would say… “It was lyrical”. Anyway, a friend sent me a...

LA Weekly reviews Thrilling Adventure Hour
Hey, remember that stage show I co-directed last weekend? Well, it turns out there was a reporter from the LA Weekly in the house. Here’s a full samples of what they had to say about the show. “The live, mock-vintage radio serial delivered what few would argue was one of their best shows to date last Saturday night in front of a beyond-sold out crowd.” “Thrilling...

Directing, Thrills, and Adventures.
As some of you know, I am peripherally involved with the incredibly talented folks who put on The Thrilling Adventure Hour at Largo in LA every month (they were doing it for years over at M-Bar in Hollywood but recently moved.) The cast are an astonishingly versatile and hard working band of performers who never cease to delight their sold out audiences. Anyway, after years hovering on the...

New UK Review of Splinter
A short review of Splinter just hit the Culture Junkies blog in the UK, I guess the movie has started popping up on SkyTV over there. Cool.  “this is a horror movie made for horror movie fans and it exploits the best things about the genre in a superior fashion to the majority of bigger-budget Hollywood disasters.” They have some nice things to say about Splinter, and refer to me...

What Did I Do This Week?
Ever wonder what a feature director gets up to when he’s not directing movies? Well this week I directed a couple of viral spots for Warner Brothers, that’s what! They’re called “Stunt Schooled” and were created to promote the BluRay/DVD release of Guy Ritchie’s awesome Sherlock Holmes, which has some of the best fight sequences ever.  The first one popped up...

Splinter Hits The Short List
Horror-Movies.ca, one of my favorite horror news and reviews sites, just published their list of the “five best indie horror movies ever made” and I’m astonished to learn that Splinter made the cut. I’m also ashamed to admit that I haven’t actually seen the rest of the films on the list.  Time to update my NetFlix queue.

Splinter Opens in Peru
Splinter slowly spreads in the global marketplace, opening in theatres in Peru this past weekend (Jan 29th) under the Spanish/Mexico release title “Esta Dentro De Ti”. That’s well over a year after it opened in US theatres. If I can find any info about it, I’ll post it as a follow up.

Sundance 2010
The last time I attended Sundance, in 2006, was my eighth straight year at the festival, and I have very much missed being there each year since then. Now, thanks to the kindness of one very generous friend, I am once again heading to the snowy mountains of Park City, Utah for what is in my mind the most significant film festival in the US. My history with the festival runs pretty deep, dating...

Netherlands Splinter Art
As regular readers will know, I get a kick out of seeing the international artwork created by the various distributors of my films as they roll out around the world. Well, below is the cover art of the recently released Splinter DVD from the Netherlands. E1 Entertainment created this, and I kind of love it. Someone pointed out that it’s reminiscent of poser for The Hills Have Eyes, which is...

New Trailer For My Friends' Movie
I edited this new trailer for my friends’ movie DRONES. It’s a great indie scifi comedy, written by my good friends Ben Acker & Ben Blacker (the former wrote my short film Kidney Thieves), it’s directed by my good friends Amber Benson and Adam Busch (who you know from Buffy) and stars many other friends, including Samm Levine (Inglourious Basterds, Freaks and Geeks), Dave...

The Year of Splinter, Redux
Splinter hits another “Best Of” list, this time down under. Though it was technically released in the US in 2008, when it swept the awards at ScreamFest, played the Austin Film Festival, and premiered in theatres, most US horror fans first became aware of the film when it hit DVD and BluRay in early 2009. Further from home, where Splinter can still be found rolling out in theatres in...

Splinter Upgraded to Top 10 of Decade
A year ago I was overwhelmed when Splinter popped up on so many Top 10 lists for 2008, including AMC, Moviefone, Bloody Disgusting, Dread Central, to name a few. It even ended up in the #1 slot on a couple. Then over the weekend, when Splinter was featured on the Top 15 Horror Films of the Decade by FSR I was stoked! The decade? Wow. And then today I stumble upon HorrorBid.com, where Splinter...

Mazzupial's Top Five
Australian movie blog Movie Mazzupial just put up an article naming Splinter among their top five must see picks for this Halloween. Culling from the past ten years of “underground” horror they have put together a list that would make for a great All Hallows Movie Eve. Vienna International Festival Screenings
Splinter is showing at the Vienna International Film Festival (Viennale ‘09) this Saturday, with an encore performance at midnight on Halloween! Looking at a few web sites, this seems like one hell of a cool film festival, and the Halloween screening really sounds like a blast. Despite growing up in London, I have never really travelled through Europe. Vienna is supposed to be one of the...

Levi's Commercials I Love
When I was a teenager growing up in London, I used to go to the cinema a lot. One of the things that is, or was different about movie theatres in the UK is that they would show commercials before the films. You may roll your eyes at the idea of giant ads playing to a captive audience… but these were different. I would make sure I got to the theatre early, so I didn’t miss the new...

Splinter Price Drop in Amazon Horror Sale
The DVD and BluRay of Splinter just dropped to $17.99 in Amazon’s Halloween Horror Sale. Not much of a price break really I suppose, but every dollar counts in today’s economy, right? And there are some used copies up there from about $10 if you’re into that sort of thing. Actually they do have some pretty sweet deals in the sale, like one of my all time favorite David Fincher...

Splinter Location on Google Street View
I just discovered that the location where we shot Splinter has been added to the Google Street View map. You can check out what’s left of the gas station including the pile of melted plastic that once was a trash can, and the facade we built for the exterior bathroom where (SPOILER ALERT) Lacey first discovers the infected attendant. I was looking around trying to find the other locations,...
